We engage and educate your staff to assist in the financial turnaround for your health service.
Supporting both the private and public health sectors in Australia and Internationally.
Hospital and Health Service Chief Finance Officers contact Training Capability when they need a proven solution to ensure a multimillion dollar financial turnaround. A result welcomed by both their hospital executive and their clinicians.
These financially successful Hospitals and Health Services have one thing in common – Cost Centre Managers who are engaged in managing and understanding each financial decision they make.
Our unique Cost Centre Manager training program, developed in conjunction with clinicians and finance managers, has educated and informed over 4,000 cost centre managers since 2012.
How to improve health professionals financial decision making and behaviours
Our success is from engaging with managers, empowering them to act as if their cost centre was their own business. Providing them the financial and business knowledge to make financially prudent decisions – while still ensuring the best of clinical care.
Our point of difference is to involve and empower clinicians in making the financial improvements so they have ownership of the financial performance of their service – in contrast to the large, impersonal accounting and consulting firms that decimate the goodwill and morale of hospital staff, by cutting overtime, professional development, reducing staff – then charge hundreds of thousands of dollars which could be better spent on healthcare.
At Training Capability, we don’t lecture your staff, instead we partner with them to discover how they can maximise their revenue as well as minimise their expenditure. We continually revise our material by listening to and learning from the health services and clinical managers in our classes.
Our training modules can be tailored to meet the needs of both private and public hospitals and our Directors deliver training on site to your hospitals anywhere in Australia and the World.
Our success stories
Since the inception of Training Capability (June 2012), we have successfully partnered with 17 Hospital and Health Services (HHS) in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia, improving their financial management – while still focusing on the competing priority of improving patient care. Training Capability has also delivered successful cost centre manager training to private hospitals including the Mater Health Care Group.
Two Hospital and Health Services we have partnered with were facing $20 million + deficits and have since turned around their financial positions by posting $29.7 million and $17.7 million surpluses in the following financial year.
Training Capability is just part of the solution in achieving these amazing financial turnarounds. We have worked with outstanding Chief Finance Officers, who were both innovative and consultative through empowering and educating clinical mangers to improve the culture of financial management in their hospital. There is no one ‘fix all’ for a financial improvement. Instead it is a combination of better decision making, clever purchasing, management of expenditure, and understanding and maximising the revenue sources unique to that hospital or health service to achieve impressive results.
Our tailor-made cost centre manager training programs educate your clinical managers in easy to understand financial concepts – as well as delivering your message that prudent and innovative financial management will increase the likelihood of surpluses being delivered in the following financial year.
These surpluses can then be reinvested into better health outcomes for their community by investing in capital and equipment and employing more specialised staff to reduce waitlists.
From everything we have learnt by working with the best Chief Finance Officers and clinicians in the highest performing hospitals we share this knowledge with you and your managers
In the 2017/2018 financial year we continued our successes by partnering with a regional Hospital and Health Service (projecting a $14 million deficit in 2016) and as part of a wider strategy, business training for cost centre managers resulted a $10 million surplus being reported at the end of the financial year.
Financial turnarounds like these are only achieved through well-educated clinical and operational hospital managers making carefully considered financial and business decisions. We concentrate on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding of business to change the culture of clinician managers so that they consider every purchasing decision as if it was their own money in their own business.
